Exterior Murals

In 2018, observing for a long time a neglected and blackened wall due to the time in a small square of Paliano, a Lazio village in the province of Frosinone, Italy, I proposed to the local administrators to restore and then paint it depicting native animals and plants, proposing the sketch that was readily accepted. This is "Flora and Fauna", painted by brush with acrylic enamels on a surface of 5 x 1.80 meters, with the collaboration of the inhabitants of the neighborhood. Flowers, plants accompanied by the names in Latin, small and large animals: Pheasant, Butterflies, Snail, Bee-eater, Magpie, cover the surface of the Mural. We started by smoothing and consolidating the wall, and then applied two coats of adhesion. I then painted the bottom with Terra di Siena Acrylic Enamel, imitating the colors of the surrounding houses, and continuing with the design of the various elements; starting with colored backgrounds and then adding details. Finally, I applied a protective layer for external walls to protect the work from bad weather.

Flora and Fauna

Born from the idea of the lady who loves Bougainvillea and has no time to take care of flowers, I painted this mural in 2020 in the height of summer in a medieval Italian village full of flowery alleys, on the facade of a house. For the flowers I suggested Magenta Red, one of my favorite colors and perfectly matched to the Light Yellow of the existing wall and the Green of the leaves. The painting, very detailed, was made with outdoor acrylic enamels resistant to light, humidity and heat, and synthetic brushes on a surface of 4 x 1.60 meters. I started by dusting and washing the wall, without having to apply smoothing compound and primer, materials that I usually use for older and damaged exterior walls, but not necessary in this case. I painted starting from the stem of the vine by adding the branches along the area chosen for decoration, then I added flowers and leaves, and then ending with three small animals: turtle, bird, gecko.

Bouganvillea

“Eden 2021” was commissioned to me by a lady who loves wild flowers to give her partner a gift. They live in the countryside in a beautiful house full of plants, trees and free animals, she wanted to give meaning to a bare wall. I used high quality colors excellent for walls very exposed to the elements, with very high coverage and suitable for the somewhat rough surface that they made available to me, large and small brushes. After distributing the adhesive for the walls, I created the entire background with lighter and darker colored interventions according to the existing tone. Subsequently, I checked the surface in order to draw the elements of the mural by enlarging the pre-existing sketch. I painted the background elements first and then moved on to the foreground ones, starting from the top left side, using the ladder first and continuing from the ground to the bottom. It was not necessary to give a protective coat: the bright colors used, given the characteristic of inalterability, do not require protection. The rough surface creates an interesting optical effect of shadows and lights that change throughout the day. What seemed like a limit to me, having worked on smooth surfaces so far, turned out to be an opportunity to learn a new technique. The total length of the mural is 5.50 meters, the minimum height 96 cm, the maximum height 1.80 meters.

Eden 2021

"End Cuoio" is the name of a company that produces and sells leather bags for "custom" motorcycles and accessories, now known in various parts of the world. The need to expand the new place of sale and production also provided for the expansion of the physical store, at that moment I was called to depict the intended environment on a large wall. At the suggestion of the interior designer, I painted the mural that reproduces the real bags, starting from the single pieces seen from all sides and arriving at the finished reproduced bags. I have also added views of motorcycles accompanied by accessories reproduced in full size. I used the real pieces as templates for pieces designed bags separate elements of the different types, treasuring the employees of the company employees, and I used photos made by myself for the whole which I depicted. The interior designer's proposal was to make a charcoal effect, my solution was to use dry Black Acrylic color. Using a brush and the appropriate technique, the result is exactly the same as charcoal, with the advantage of the high resistance of the acrylic compared to the null one of the charcoal. My knowledge of technical drawing was the extra resource for the realization of the work. The mural measures 7.30 meters at the base by 3.50 meters in height, the wall was entirely painted so I had to use a ladder.

Ends Cuoio

“Dandelion” (Tarassaco) is a mural inside a house painted near a door that overlooks a small terrace that is always ventilated. The inspiration comes from this, the dandelion bends in the wind and spreads the inflorescences everywhere, favoring pollination. So I imagined bringing the flowers inside, painting them oversized and I kept the theme of the wind by adding a caption that quotes Alda Merini "... no one combs me as well as the wind". I painted the stems first, then I drew a trace of circles and semicircles in pencil, and then I painted the so-called "Tufts". I used acrylic paints on a surface of 1x2 meters.

Dandelion

“New Life” (Nuova Vita) is a mural painted in 2016 in my house, a cascade of red flowers with leaves and branches, on a trapezoidal surface. I started by painting the bottom with the sponge, using yellow, green and blue, then I drew the branches, leaves and flowers to paint them with a brush with acrylic paints. The base was the most demanding job, I searched for the exact shade for a long time, the use of sponges is ideal for blending the shades without color breaks. For the flowers I used darkened primary red with a touch of black and ivory yellow. Dimensions: 2.20 meters of base by 1.60 meters of maximum height.
