Painting Series "Small Animals"

This painting series, twelve animals related to twelve months, was designed for a Calendar in collaboration with a graphic designer who took care of the entire layout and creation of the texts. Because of the small size of each painting, I preferred to use acrylic color paper in 29.7 x 21 cm format, with a weight of 300. I find the paper for acrylic colors excellent, light and resistant, subsequently I made other works with this technique, of much larger dimensions. The twelve drawings were subsequently printed in smaller sizes on cardboard, and applied on the printed sheets. I worked with fine and medium-thin brushes, using colors and subjects that recalled months of the year: mainly cold and dark colors for cold and warm months and light for the warm months, and finished all the paintings with a Spry Acrylic Fixative.

Magpie and Flower

"Magpie and Flower“ (Gazza e Fiore) was partly painted on the occasion of an impromptu exhibition in Corciano (Umbria, Italy), and subsequently finished in the studio. Birds are the animals that inspire me the most, given the infinite variety of colors and shapes. My representation is deliberately interpreted, the already long tail of the animal is oversized, as is the red flower sprouted from the suspended branch that holds the Magpie. I painted on a 40 x 60 cm canvas with acrylic colors.

White Female Cat

"White Female Cat"(Gatta Bianca) painted in 2017, a tribute to a real, special cat completely deaf but with very large ears. The portrait on a circular cardboard was born from the encounter with this wonderful animal; I've imagined the silent and nameless cat surrounded by tropical vegetation. In order to reinforce and isolate the cardboard, I passed a primer based on acrylic paint, then I painted the background in dark Sugar Paper by combining the Cyan color with the Black, with an external decoration equal but lightened, then I drew and painted leaves and the cat, then the Magenta flowers. The work is in the cat's owners home.

Three hearts and blue blood

"Three hearts and blue blood" (Tre cuori e Sangue blu) was born from the research I did on the fascinating octopus, an ancient animal that, among the infinite intellectual abilities and the infinite shapes it manages to assume, also has this particularity of the three hearts. The painting measures 40 x 30 cm, on canvas cardboard. The idea was born after watching the documentary "My friend at the sea bottom": the whole year of life of an octopus linked by friendship with a human.

Yellow Horse

"Yellow Horse" (Cavallo Giallo) is a small work on canvas, base 18 cm and height 24 cm, painted with acrylic colors. The horse theme is part of a series reproduced on different supports and sizes over the years, every year I paint one. Painted by brush in 2020, Mustard Yellow and Antique Pink colors, finished with spry fixative.

The tightrope walker

"The tightrope walker"(L'equilibrista) Painted on canvas with acrylic colors, the Manchurian Crane, a large, splendid animal in danger of extinction, an icon in many Asian countries, expresses all the grace and elegance possible in its dance, almost always in pairs. Painted with a dark background, stretched towards the red moon, it represents for me the achievement of absolute concentration, when standing on one leg it represents perfect balance. The work measures 40 x 70 cm, I painted with the colors Bladder Green, Magenta, Payne's Gray, Blue, Yellow, Mustard, White.
